Aligning Ourselves with Hope - 03/21/09
A record-breaking crowd turned out for a Common Ground fundraising brunch March 21 at the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica. Speaker Sheila Kuehl said the strong show of support - despite the economic downturn - proved that people in our community "are aligning ourselves
with hope."

More donors attended and contributed than ever before, helping support growing demand for Common Ground services. "This is an especially tough year," according to Executive Director Sharon Chamberlain. "This financial crisis has hit hard with the people we serve. More people
are showing up who need help. And they have greater needs."

This increase in demand coincides with an unexpected decrease in funding from LA County to support Common Ground's HIV prevention and care services. The cuts are part of county-wide budget slashing in response to lost tax revenues.

"We must meet this challenge. So many people are in trouble - we can't let their needs go unmet," said Chamberlain. "The cost of not helping is simply too high."

2nd Annual World Aids Day Event - 12/01/08
The SPA 5 Consumer Advisory Board and Common Ground hosted our 2nd Annual World AIDS Day event on 12/1/08. Twice as many people attended the event this year including clients, children, parents and community members.

After meeting at Common Ground, the group took a candlelight walk to City Hall where HIV advocate Everett Alexander spoke. We returned to the agency for a reception.

This event was also covered by the Santa Monica Daily Press and is featured on the front page of the December 2, 2008 edition. You can follow this link to view the event: http://www.smdp.com/site/archives/120208.pdf

Thank you to all who participated and made this a memorable event! A special thank you to the SPA 5 Consumer Advisory Council for all their hard work.
